Timer Arcadia

With only 8 days to go til our Christmas Market, Northern Regards is excited to welcome back…

Timber Arcadia

Getting to know our lovely returning stall holders a little better… here’s what Timber Arcadia had to say…

Why do you choose to use recycled/upcycled or sustainable pieces in your handmade craft?

The use of recycled materials and in our case, upcycled materials is a more environmental and sustainable approach to the otherwise very wasteful heavy industry. In mass production huge amounts of materials are wasted in the pursuit of ‘catalogue type products”. We believe that the variation in colour and tiny imperfections in timber are what gives a timber product its unique and natural design. Industrial processes can see vast amounts wood either bleached with chemicals or discarded entirely all for the want of picture perfect results in a loss of the essence of the living product – wood.

Why is handmade important to you?

Quality and care in a product is extremely important. When making an end grain chopping board for example, it is not meant to last for only 12 months but rather for 10-20 years. We also make them for fun outside of our normal jobs. When people make a living from something they are always tempted to mass produce it, however, we do it for the love of woodworking.

Which is your favourite Melbourne suburb and why?

We love Northcote, it is just a stones throw away from our house with so many awesome cafes to relax in and shops with exciting new designs and ideas to keep you interested (not to mention the market).

When you are not making or selling at markets, what would we find you doing?

When not working or at the markets you will find us kite-surfing down at the beach. I, Jenny, am also a design engineer and design new products every day.

Coffee or tea? Wine or Beer?

Depends on the time of day, the weather and how we feel…all of them but never all together

So come on down to Northern Regards Artisan Market on Saturday 14th December 11am til 4 at Northcote Social Club and check out Timber Arcadia’s wonderful and sustainable artisan wares

We can’t wait to see you there!

Twice Drunk

With only 9 days to go til our Christmas Market, Northern Regards is excited to welcome back….

Twice Drunk

Another of our wonderful returning stallholders, Twice Drunk shares his thoughts on sustainable, craft and what life looks like when he’s not making…

Why do you choose to use recycled/upcycled or sustainable pieces in your handmade craft?

Using recycled material in my craft allows me to create something unique, perhaps something we’ve never seen before. It takes a familiar object and makes it something new and exciting. It also helps me, and hopefully others, see opportunity in items normally discarded as waste, bringing value to something previously thought to be worthless.

It helps me see the world differently.

Why is handmade important to you?

Handmade = Art. Handmade is the artistic expression of someone who is pursuing their urge to create. Someone who is giving of themselves to benefit others. I think that’s worth celebrating!

Which is your favorite Melbourne suburb and why?

Fitzroy. It’s a community and people who love art in it’s many forms, especially street art and creative design. It’s about freedom of expression, being yourself and acceptance of each person’s individuality without judgement. And it’s about enjoying good food and drink in a relaxing social atmos.

When you are not making or selling at markets, what would we find you doing?

My friends are important to me and I’m blessed to have a tight group f wonderful people around me who support my creative expression and share my love for good food and drink! I’m a huge electronic music fan and when I’s not sleeping, there’s usually a constant feed of progressive house pumping away in the background. I also have a sweet spot for old style horror/slash flicks from the 70’s/80’s. Always good for a laugh/scare.

Coffee or tea? Wine or beer?

Coffee, definitely. Short Mac or Soy Latte.

Wine AND Beer… although usually a GnT with Lime!

So come on down to Northern Regards Artisan Market on Saturday 14th December 11am til 4 at Northcote Social Club and grab yourself or someone special a stunning and sustainable Twice Drunk original!

We can’t wait to see you there!

TishTashy

With only 10 Days to go til our Christmas Market, Northern Regards is excited to welcome back…

TishTashy

As you know we like to ask our returning stall holders to share some of what inspires them in life and their creative endeavors.  Here’s what the lovely TishTashy had to say…

Why do you choose to use recycled/upcycled or sustainable pieces in your handmade craft ?

Because this age of disposable consumerism has gotten way out of hand. Personally, I would much rather purchase recycled, handmade, local, and sustainable goods, so it just came naturally.

Why is handmade important to you ?

As a creator, it gives me an outlet. Also, I’ve always loved one of a kind items, whatever they might be. As a consumer, I love knowing that I am directly supporting people within my community.

Which is your favourite Melbourne suburb and why ?

Tough question, I love so many for various reasons but my biggest soft spot is for Thornbury. We rented a little house on Mansfield Street for 3 years and think about moving back all of the time. The community is fantastic, and the streets are super bicycle friendly.

When you are not making or selling at markets, what would we find you doing ?

Hanging out with the funniest one year old ever, or walking our Chihuahua doggie, Trixie.

Coffee or tea ? Wine or beer ?

Coffee and Wine!!

So come on down to Northern Regards Artisan Market on Saturday 14th December 11am til 4 at Northcote Social Club and grab yourself some gorgeous TishTashy wares – a sustainable Christmas gift for someone you love!

We can’t wait to see you there!
