Gabby Lane

Northern Regards Artisan Market is excited to welcome back….

Gabby Lane

As you know we have been asking our returning stall holders to answer a few questions so we can get to know them a bit better. Here’s what Gabby Lane had to say…

Gabrielle Mentz 3

Why do you choose to use recycled/upcycled pieces in your handmade craft?

I love to make handbags, but I know the fashion industry is not necessarily the most sustainable – look at the mountains of discarded items that flow into op shops daily.  It’s incredibly satisfying transforming the discarded into repurposed.

Gabrielle Mentz 1

Why is handmade important to you ?

It’s important to know where your product is being made and by whom.

Which is your favourite Melbourne suburb and why ?

I’m a northern suburbs fan through and through – as long as we keep supporting the independents!

Gabrielle Mentz 4

When you are not making or selling at markets, what would we find you doing ?

Ask me that question when I’m not busy making or selling at markets…

Gabrielle Mentz 2

Coffee or tea ? Wine or beer ?

Yes to all of the above

So come on down to Northern Regards Artisan Market on Saturday 2nd November 11am til 4 at Northcote Social Club and check out Gabby Lane’s gorgeous creations!

We can’t wait to see you there!

Anna Bradford

Northern Regards Artisan Market is excited to welcome back….

Anna Bradford

Here’s what the fantastic Anna Bradford had to say to our ‘get to know you better’ questions….

Why do you choose to use recycled/upcycled or sustainable pieces in your handmade craft ?

I work with recycled, upcycled and sustainable materials because I am interested in the ethics of consumption and fascinated by my own difficulty in finding products that have not been manufactured in ways that exploit people and/or the planet. It is exciting to me to do my best to create even the tiniest table of products created with zero exploitation of any person or thing.

Why is handmade important to you ?

Handmade is important to me firstly because it is a kind of work that brings a huge amount of joy and peace into my life. It’s a meditation and a yoga and a philosophy all in one and secondly, when done locally and without exploitation, it can be a delightful loophole in a soulless capitalist system!

Which is your favourite Melbourne suburb and why ?

My favourite suburb is Northcote, because it’s cheerful and friendly and lots of interesting things happen here.

When you are not making or selling at markets, what would we find you doing ?

When I’m not making things and selling them at markets, I’m busy writing children’s books.

Coffee or tea ? Wine or beer ?

Tea and neither, but if there’s cranberry juice I’ll be very happy!

So come on down to Northern Regards Artisan Market on Saturday 2nd November 11am til 4 at Northcote Social Club and enjoy Anna Bradford”s gorgeous creations!

We can’t wait to see you there!

Kate Campbell Designs

Another of our wonderful returning stall holders, Kate Campbell Designs shares her thoughts with us on sustainable, handmade and what’s the best drink in town….

Forged and Brassy Necklace 4p WM

Why do you choose to use recycled/upcycled or sustainable pieces in your handmade craft ?

Jewellery has so many layers of meaning; wealth, beauty, culture, relationship. I use recycled and upcycled materials in my pieces in an effort to challenge ideas of precious and value. In my mind there is nothing so precious as the creative spark that takes something old or used and creates something new and beautiful from it. If we lived in a world were these things were valued as precious perhaps we would have a safer future for our kids.

Why is handmade important to you ?

Buying something handmade from the maker, paying the real cost, seeing the work that goes into creating something breaks down the insatiable consumerist cycle – slow buying, like slow food, brings out the flavour.

Which is your favourite Melbourne suburb and why ?

Northcote of course! I have lived here for almost 14 years and have watched so much change. I love walking down the street and saying hello to the locals, feeling part of a community.

When you are not making or selling at markets, what would we find you doing ?

Hanging out with two very lovely boys – playing trains, watching skateboading skills, throwing balls and trying to help them grow into the wonderful men I know they will become.

Flowers Vacola

Northern Regards Artisan Market is excited to welcome back…

Flowers Vacola

Here’s what another of our gorgeous returning stallholders Flowers Vacola had to say….

Flowers Vacola 1

Why do you choose to use recycled/upcycled or sustainable pieces in your handmade craft ?

I like things that tell a story, If it can be recycled/upcycled and not left to landfill then we are making our world a better place. It also amazes me that, what was once, is now something completely different.

Why is handmade important to you ?

It is our creativity, love, passion, ideas, hard work all laid out in an object/s. Handmade is a personal experience filled with all the energies of the maker, All the profits go to that person and not a big company paying miniscule wages. Handmade is often better made.

Flowers Vacola 5
